 Costumes

I found a really interesting site dedicated to the study of the costumes of the Lord of the rings. It seems that the movie presented a really difficult challenge since the Hobbits need to be represented a lot smaller than the actors who played them. A link on the site has page that shows the scale height of each of the 9 main characters. Many costumes had to be made in two scale sizes for their mini stunt doubles. The site really gets into the little details used to create and be able to recreate many of the styles and costumes used in the film.

Acting style

I found a site that has a lot of information on the Hong Kong movie industry. The actors in Hong Kong have a very different set of motivating factors to motivate their character portrayal. First of all a hero or heroin is often defending their family honor not a very common theme for U.S. Movies. The actors also have learned to act in a different environment and have much more rigid postures. The author also stated that many Hong Kong actors are learning to act more like Western actors and approach their roles and dialogues in a similar manner.

That’s great that you found a website for the Lord of the Rings costumes. I had a very difficult time looking for film costume sites. Yes, you are definitely right about the different acting styles. Americans have such different values than people from China.
